THE BIRD PILLAR

BIRD BREATHINGBird Breathing (้ณฅใฎๅผๅธ Tori no kokyลซ) is a breathing technique derived from Wind Breathing and Mist Breathing.Bird Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics birds, their flight and attack mannerisms, as well as some of their innate abilities, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve high jumps and plunging attacks, like the hunting habits of several birds of prey. Users that have mastered Bird Breathing visualize themselves and their surroundings with birds, or having any of their characteristics such as wings, beaks or claws, when unleashing its techniques.Based on Bird Breathing's only known user, Soraki Nobutoshi, who wears a special haori with sleeves that resemble the wings of a bird in order to glide faster and perform movements mid-air, it can be assumed that most other users would also have to use sleeves similar to the ones Sorakiโs haori posses in order to fully maximize the potential of this Breathing Style.
Bird Breathing has 9 standard known forms and techniques, and a Tenth one only utilized by the current Bird Hashira, Soraki Nobutoshi.
- First Form: Hollow Bones, The Flight of the Birds (ๅฃฑใๅ ไธญ็ฉบใฎ้ชจใ้ณฅใฎ้ฃ่ก Ichi no kata: Chลซkลซ no hone, tori no hikล) โ the user uses the bases of the bird breathing, taking a deep breath while clearing the body and mind of any tought, filling their whole system with air close enough to liberate tension and make the body lighter, in such way, the subject is able to use the wind as transport, almost flying like a bird and mimicking their movements.- Second Form: Iron Beak (ๅผใๅ ้ใฎใใกใฐใ Ni no kata: Tetsu no kuchibashi)- The user launches themselves forward while their sword is pointed front, like the beak of a bird of prey.- Third Form: Winged Slash (ๅใๅ ็ฟผใฎใใในใฉใใทใฅ San no kata: Tsubasa no aru surasshu) - The user lifts their body in the air, using the impulse to swirl around and one reached the proper height, sword is held with both hands, cutting down the air while plunging down, displaying wings that cut in diagonal.- Fourth Form: Predatory Claws (่ใๅใ็ฅๅฅช็ใช็ช Shi no kata: Ryakudatsu-tekina tsume) โ The user moves their swords in motions that follow a pattern of up-down strikes, like a bird using their claws.- Fifth Form: Slash of The Soft Feather (ไผใๅ ๆใใใ็พฝใฎในใฉใใทใฅ Go no kata: Yawarakai hane no surasshu) - The user jumps upward while holding their sword. This technique uses a soft landing, a fast move. While slashing down to slay their opponent, the touch of the blade is smooth and painless, cutting through effectively, but softly, like a feather.- Sixth Form: Fog Bird, Wind Conqueror (้ธใๅใ้งใฎ้ณฅใ้ขจใฎๅพๆ่ Roku no kata: Kiri no tori,-fลซ no seifuku-sha) - The user makes a circular motion that elevates a gust of wind that travels with the sword, soon enough a cloud of fog with the form of a bird is elevated and brings assistance for a surprise attack delivered by a slash of the sword, still carrying the gust of wind that took the form of a bird plummeting down.- Seventh Form: Falcon Hunt, Plummeting Death (ๆผใๅใใใคใใต็ฉใใๆฅ่ฝๆญป Shichi no kata: Hayabusa kari, kyลซraku shi)- The user jumps as high as they can, also using the bases of the breathing technique to become lighter and reach further. Once the adequate height is reached the user will start plummeting down with both arms at the side of their body for aerodynamic purposes. Mid fly they will point the sword to the front, the movement cutting the air, sending a gust that will knock and/or cut their opponent. Lastly the user will swing their blade once reached the opponent, cutting what the blade finds.- Eighth Form: Flock of Birds (ๆใๅใ้ณฅใฎ็พคใ Hachi no kata: Tori no mure) - The user leaps into the air and swings their blade which generates a flock of angry wind-based birds that harm the opponent repeatedly.- Ninth Form: Eye of the Hunter (็ใๅใใใณใฟใผใฎ็ฎKu no kata: Hantฤ no me) โ The user is able to enhance their eyesight while midair (or from a high place) and identify objectives that are far away.- Tenth Form: Sacred Punishment of The Eagle (ๆพใๅใใฏใทใฎ็ฅ่ใช็ฝฐ Jลซ no kata: Washi no shinseina batsu) - The user jumps into the air and while up, extends both arms, upon closing them with much strength a great eagle is summoned, wreaking havoc with powerful wind currents that bring instability upon the objective. Using that moment of weakness, the user glides down and when reaching proximity with the objective, a twirl is performed, slashing the enemy with a wing-like motion.

Night time is quiet, the only sound breaking peace is the crying of a newborn. A woman mutters a name softly while holding the tiny baby. โSoraki, because she is like the bright sky in a sunny day, and she is my little hope.โ Fuyuko Nobutoshi died while holding her daughter, musing her the softest words full of love.
Those were the only words of affection the youngest Nobutoshi ever received. After her birth, she and her sister were raised by a very remorseful grandmother, who saw Soraki as a disdain, the cause of death of her lovely daughter.
Years passed by, Soraki and her sister grew up as strong and resilient ladies, joyful despite the treatment of the old woman. Soraki always knew looking at the sky was calming, she knew that if the sun shined, everything was going to be okay.
Until the sun shined no more.
A few months after her tenth birthday her grandmother stormed in the room she and her older sister shared, demanding explanation from the eldest while Soraki watched the discussion escalate.
Her grandmother claimed that Umeko had a secret lover that roamed the surroundings of the house every night, stopping in front of the window of the room every time Umeko went out for water. The eldest denied every time the accusations, and in a fit of anger the old woman threw a vase at the girls.
After that, both Umeko and Soraki were kicked out to the cold streets of sea-side Hokkaido. Umeko was hurt, the ceramic of the vase made several cuts in her arm, Soraki was crying as a ten-year-old girl would do after being kicked out with nothing but her kimono and her sister.
As the night passed by, the young girls roamed the streets until they arrived at the shore. They were unaware of the shadow following them, lurking, savoring the blood spilled by Umeko.
That night ended with Umeko ripped away of Sorakiโs arms, terribly slaughtered in front of the young girl. And like a glorified warrior, a shadow descended from the sky, a golden cloud illuminating the grim night. The shadow (later Soraki learned it was a demon) was slayed and she was able to hold her sister until Umeko Nobutoshi shared her las breath.
Tsubaki Hamayumi. That was the name of the woman that rescued Soraki. That same woman became Sorakiโs mother, taking her to Hamayumi Estate and training her since that day.
As Soraki grew, she learned more.
She learned demons existed, and that a group of people was designated to be their executors, she also learned the woman that rescued her was part of them.
She learned Tsubaki was something known as Hashira, a Pillar. She learned about breathing techniques, and as she practiced, she learned that none of the practiced one suited her.
Tsubaki explained that she went through the same, at the end developing her own technique was the answer and so they did the same for Soraki. That way, after many attempts and research, bird-breathing was created by the only known user at that moment: Soraki Nobutoshi.
As a Tsuguko, Soraki trained until she was restless. Every emotion felt through her life was her fuel, every moment fear engulfed her, every moment she felt unloved and rejected. Now she had courage, and love, a home, a meaning, and a goal.
Those things were enough to help her push through any adversity until the day arrived when a new pillar arise. Until Soraki Nobutoshi was proudly announced as the Bird Hashira.
She was a pride to her own self, and she knew that from now on, she was going to fill the sky with hope.

Her relationships with the other Pillars is good, finding in them a companionship to ease the sadness that never left since she was a child.
